The Conference
GEO-SUSTAINABILITY BRICS 2026

The International Scientific Conference GEO-SUSTAINABILITY BRICS 2026 brings together researchers, experts, and academic institutions from BRICS countries and partner states working in the fields of geophysics, climatology, ecology, and sustainable natural resource management. The conference features plenary sessions, thematic panels, interdisciplinary scientific presentations, and round-table discussions aimed at exchanging up-to-date research results and advancing international scientific cooperation. Particular emphasis is placed on integrating fundamental and applied approaches, as well as on modern methods for studying climate and geophysical processes.

The choice of Kabardino-Balkarian Republic as the venue for the conference carries special scientific significance due to the region’s unique natural environment. The proximity to Mount Elbrus—the highest peak in Europe—creates a rare natural laboratory for studying atmospheric processes, glaciology, high-mountain climatology, and the dynamics of mountain ecosystems under conditions that are inaccessible or significantly limited in many other parts of the world. The region also possesses a well-developed scientific infrastructure in the field of high-mountain geophysics and climate research, providing a strong foundation for observation-based studies and international scientific collaboration.

This combination of unique natural conditions and established scientific capacity makes the conference particularly valuable. Participants are able not only to discuss scientific results but also to engage with real-world field environments that directly relate to the conference themes. This significantly enhances the applied value of the scientific dialogue and expands opportunities for interdisciplinary research.

Thus, GEO-SUSTAINABILITY BRICS 2026 represents an international scientific platform that unites global research communities, where the uniqueness of the host region becomes an integral part of the research process, strengthening the conference’s relevance within the global scientific agenda on climate change, geophysics, and sustainable development.

Kabardino-Balkaria: A Unique Region

at the Heart of the Greater Caucasus

Kabardino-Balkaria is one of the most remarkable regions of the Russian Federation, located in the central part of the Greater Caucasus and home to Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe. The republic is renowned for its extraordinary natural diversity, rich cultural heritage, and unique combination of mountain, forest, alpine, and steppe ecosystems concentrated within a relatively small territory.

The region offers an exceptional natural environment shaped by powerful geophysical processes, diverse climatic conditions, and abundant natural resources. Snow-capped peaks, deep gorges, alpine meadows, ancient forests, crystal-clear rivers, and mineral springs create a landscape of outstanding beauty and scientific significance. The remarkable richness of local biodiversity and the close interaction between natural and human systems make Kabardino-Balkaria an important area for environmental research, climate studies, and sustainable development initiatives.

Kabardino-Balkaria is particularly famous for its mineral waters, which originate in the high mountains and are enriched through natural geological processes. For centuries, these springs have been valued for their beneficial properties and continue to support both local ecosystems and human well-being. Together with the region’s clean mountain air, favourable climate, and abundant natural resources, they contribute to a unique environment that promotes health, resilience, and harmony between people and nature.

Equally distinctive is the cultural heritage of the republic. The traditions of hospitality, mutual respect, and harmonious coexistence of different peoples have been preserved for generations. Kabardino-Balkaria is home to a rich mosaic of customs, languages, music, cuisine, and craftsmanship, reflecting centuries of interaction between mountain communities and the natural environment.

For participants of GEO-SUSTAINABILITY BRICS 2026, Kabardino-Balkaria offers not only a venue for scientific dialogue but also a unique opportunity to experience one of Eurasia’s most fascinating mountain regions, where natural beauty, cultural traditions, and scientific inquiry come together in an inspiring setting.
